About the Artist: Born and raised in Deline, Marlene grew up sewing and crafting. From a very young age she has always had the ambition to carry on the cultural traditions of creating beaded jewelry and clothing. Her mother Rosie had the greatest impact on her journey with arts and crafts, her grandmother Louise taught her as well her sister Betty. Her maternal roots are a big part of her life and art style. They all continue to teach her about the traditional ways of life.

Today she continues to be committed to her sewing and working towards teaching the skills to our youth, young parents, and anyone who wishes to learn the traditional ways that has been passed down to her from her ancestors. Marlene’s greatest ambition is to ensure that the future generations of Indigenous peoples will have the knowledge to continue on crafting and keeping in touch with the traditional lifestlye.
